ACL TEAR TREATMENT

ACL
INJURY

Dr Praveen Tittal is one of the best Arthroscopic Surgeon in India for any kind of ACL Surgery. The knee joint is supported by two prominent ligaments called Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) during bending and stretching. These ligaments are made of elastic like tissues and can get torn if an injury occurs while playing or due to an accident. The tear can be partial or complete. Whenever a ligament injury occurs it is very painful and there is instability in the knee joint. Immediately after the injury, one must give rest to the knee joint and apply ice pack to reduce pain and inflammation.

One must immediately consult an orthopaedic surgeon who would do a thorough physical examination. The best diagnostic test for finding out the extent of injury to the ACL Ligament is MRI scan. The MRI gives complete information about the injury to the ACL Ligament. If the MRI report mentions partial tear of the ACL Ligament then complete bed rest is the best course of action. This will give time to the ligament to heal itself. If there is a complete tear of the ACL Ligament then you would require arthroscopic surgery.

TREATMENT OPTIONS

One must not rush into surgery after an ACL Injury. Unless there is a complete tear of the ligament one must try the conservative treatment for 1-2 months before deciding on the surgery. However in cases of complete tear, surgery is the best option once the swelling has subsided. In Arthroscopic Surgery there is no incision on the knee joint. Only 3 small holes are made through which the arthroscope enters inside the knee joint and the surgery is done by magnifying the knee joint on TV Screen. After the surgery the small holes are closed using staplers. Dr Praveen Tittal is one of the best doctors at Fortis Hospital, Gurgaon specializing in all kinds of arthroscopic surgeries of knee, shoulder and hip joint.

Non-surgical treatment may be appropriate for patients who are less active, do not participate in activities that require running, jumping or pivoting, and are interested in physical therapy to regain range of motion and strength to match the uninjured leg.

In most of the cases an implant is used to anchor the torn ligament to the bone. We use FDA approved imported implants for this surgery.

COST OF TREATMENT

The cost of Arthroscopic ACL Repair Surgery without using an implant would be in the range of Rs. 80,000 - 1,25,000 depending on the hospital and the category of room in the hospital. The cost of ACL Surgery when implant is used would be in the range of Rs. 1,10,000 - 1,55,000 in different hospitals. The surgery normally takes around 2 hours and the hospital stay is one day. The patient is able to walk with the help of a walker within few hours of the surgery. The patient is discharged from the hospital on the next day.
